Our steps to project completion

Projects normally begin with a phone conversation about customer needs and desired completion dates.  We offer evening and weekend appointments to accommodate work schedules and aim to accomplish most jobs in as little as a couple of hours.  For example, a few post holes for deck footings or a garden fence may be done within an hour.  Larger tasks obviously take longer.

Depending on the nature of the project, a site visit may not be necessary prior to actual work commencing.  We may ask to be emailed a few pictures of the proposed work area, however, so as to better understand the scope of the work.

Utility Marking

Due to the need to ensure no underground utilities are present, a detailed description of the work area is required.  Once that's provided, we'll contact Miss Dig to have any public utilities in the proposed work area marked.

Miss Dig is a free service and, once notified, normally takes up to three business days to complete the required utility marking.  It is important to note that excavation contractors are prohibited from doing mechanized digging within 4' of a marked public utility until the line has been exposed by hand or other methods.

After the public utilities are marked, but before we begin work we'll take a few minutes [using our own utility locating equipment] to verify no private utilities are present.  Miss Dig only marks those which are public and any lines installed by homeowners or other contractors are considered "private" and need to be located.  For example, an electrical line from a home to an outbuilding or other structure would likely be considered a private utility.  Once all utilities are located and marked, work begins.

Communication with Customers

For those projects requiring more than one day to complete, our goal is to clearly communicate our intentions with respect to completing the remaining elements of the job.

Payment

Payment is due upon job completion or, for larger jobs, based on a prearranged payment agreement.
